Anthropologie inspired flowers

If you were following last weeks favourite things, you would remember that I featured this project from Homemade Ginger
I thought this project was so cute and simple. Oh, I forgot and easy!

So here are the steps. Get a couple styrofoam balls (as many flowers as you would like to make) they are your base. Then cut Q-tips in half and begin to stick them into the styrofoam balls... Like this
You don't want to put the Q-tips too close together, or else they will not secure in the styrofoam well. After filling your styrofoam ball with the Q-tips, it will begin to look like this...

Make as many of these as you would like. I choose to only make three.

Then in a bowl, mix 2 parts blue food colouring and 1 part green food colouring for a turquoise colour. You can choose to make any colour you wish. I just liked that colour! Roll the balls evenly in the bowl with food colouring.

Let the Q-tips dry. This might take a while for them to dry. You might want to turn them over every so often as some of the colour ran off my Q-tips.

In the mean time, I decided to colour a glass jar with food colouring and modge podge to match my flowers. What I did is mix 2parts blue food colouring and 1part green with some water and modge podge. Mix together, or swirl the liquid around. When coated evenly, drain the liquid out of the glass or jar. Let dry for a while. For a speedy dry, you could put the jars in the oven at 200 degrees for 5 minutes or so. I let mine air dry as you can see from the picture.

The last part. Using an old fake flower, cut the flower off the top of the green wire base. Poke the stryofoam with the green wire base from the flower. You may want to use some hot glue to keep it in place. Put flowers into your favourite vases, and away you go! Fun and easy!

Hope my tutorial made sense? If you have any questions, leave a message in the comment section or email me. I would gladly answer any questions you have!

And here is the final project:

I think I'll make some more because they are so darn cute! Thanks for stoppin' by!
